The Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat is incredibly rare, so when I was researching for this painting, there were practically no photos available to use as reference. I worked mostly with descriptions and blurry images to build the image of what this wombat species looked like.
It’s one of the paintings I created for children’s book “Snuggled Away” written by Cate Storey. I’ve really played up the colours of the night, with a purple night sky and the earth a deep orange. It all brings out the wombat’s fur beautifully in the moonlight.
